Yamaha Tyros 2 - Review

Tyros 2 - Played by us 20th September- But what do we think?

Well here it is. The Ultimate - Tyros 2. Until now we have been held back by Yamaha regulations but I am now able to tell you my full review information of what it does and what I thought.

Tyros 2 Back

To start off in simple terms, the Tyros 2 is the best keyboard I have ever played. The sounds, the styles, the overall build and quality of the instrument is stunning. It is quite definitely a massive advancement on the Tyros 1 and from the pictures you do not get the idea of its quality but looking at it alone in the flesh you see how much better it is. The key quality is massively improved. The speaker clamps on the keyboard were always annoying as you had to screw them to the product on Tyros 1 but Yamaha have changed this and the brackets now simply slide in and out of the back with a 2 pin connector. The music stand is the same idea.

Super Articulation -- It has all been discussed on the net but how good are they? The answer is: Better than the audio demos can actually put across. The simple playing of the S.art voices proved to me that for once we have an instrument that is better in real life than on the demos published - now that is rare! There are 42 of them in there so there is plenty to choose from. Some like the Tremolo strings are similar but do the same thing via a different process. i.e. legato strings can be faded across to tremolo strings via the mod wheel or the 2nd trem. strings can be phased from legato to Trem. via the aftertouch. But in essence the range of S.Art voices is excellent and they are stonkingly good! The R3 section can also be split into a section on its own to have an extra sound zone for playing.

The styles follow suit. Using the newer sounds means the styles that are already there sound much better and the many new styles available are absolutely second to none. Combined with the sounds put all together I guarantee anyone wanting a top line keyboard has found everything they will want and can not fault the sound in anyway. There is a choice of the old styles there but these have even been ripped apart and re-done using the newer sounds.

Hard disk recording is available literally at the touch of a button. A few presses and you can have an audio file on the hard disk (optional). It is a multi-track recorder but not in the sense you may expect. it does not have 4 different tracks running at the same time, it actually bounces down each time and allows you to do a max. of 4 times recording for the same file that you are saving to the disk. It is the best quality as the line out is not as high a quality as recording to the internal hard disk.

There have been many rumours up till now on the net and I will diffuse them for you --

I know some people want to add harmony to a pre-recorded audio track and the only way to do this is to record a track on the keyboard to go along with the audio file and then use that as a harmony track.

NEW FEATURES:

The style screen offers fantastic little extras. Each style box in the corner will have the tempo of the style shown. When you change style you know what speed it will be at. GREAT!! This can be turned off as well so the tempo does not automatically change when you do not want it to!

The new Repetoire button is an instant way to search the music database. Simply select a style and at the bottom of the screen press the repetoire button. This will search the Music database for you and show the songs that suit that style. Easy!!

The new information button on the sound screen shows what each sound is about. Example if you select one of the new S.Art guitar sounds it will tell you what the sound does and how it works. Fantastic! and this applies to all sounds in there.

Music database has been enhanced taking the glitches out from the T1 models. It is now simple and easy to add a song to music database favorites and as easy to take it out.

ALSO NOTE: the official spec shows guide lights available - This is not correct as it does not have guide light on it!

If you need advice or want information simply E-Mail me here and I shall replay ASAP.
